The Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) which is the lead Surgical body in the Oceanic Region established the Australasian Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (AJOMS) in 2023.
The Journal has subsequently engaged a new production company who also publishes the Australian Medical Journal.
With this expertise, we plan to produce two editions of 8 articles per year. Volume 2, part one will be available in May 2025, again covering the full scope but with an emphasis on Orthognathic Surgery. Volume 2, part two will appear in November 2025 with an emphasis on Temporomandibular Reconstruction.
The genesis of AJOMS was prompted by the need for all Australasian trainees to demonstrate research & publication experience prior to their completion of specialist training. This need for our younger members to publish is demonstrated by over 80% of all papers are from our training units. ANZAOMS has established an experienced Editorial team who carefully edits submissions with guidance through the publication pathway. This does include a 25% rejection rate but this ensures high scientific standards. The Journal also publishes Perspective pieces from senior members & invited speakers.
