Open Oral–Maxillofacial Imaging Datasets: Progress, Gaps, and the Path Ahead
Systematic review of 105 open oral–maxillofacial imaging datasets (437,538 images from 21 countries). Nearly 80% include annotations, but only 25.7% report annotator qualifications. 83.8% don’t disclose ethics approvals; 61.9% specify reuse licenses (often CC BY). Authors call for standards and AI-specific consent to guide safe dataset reuse and AI development.

Identifying the Cellular "Accomplices" That Drive Oral Cancer Metastasis
Our study maps the invasive front of oral cancer using spatial transcriptomics. We found that tumor cells are aided by an "accomplice": activated myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs). Through ECM-CD44 crosstalk, myCAFs enhance tumor cell stemness, creating a metastatic niche. From this interaction, we extracted a spatially resolved, 23-gene signature that predicts both lymph node metastasis and poor survival, which offers new prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
