Meet Dr Shreya Tocaciu, an Australian Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who lives in regional Australia but has successfully carved out her career working both regionally and in the city. Dr Tocaciu works as a consultant surgeon in a busy Melbourne Hospital as well as working in her local regional practice.
As maxillofacial surgeons, our daily commutes vary significantly depending on our work location. I regularly travel between two distinct settings - a regional hospital and a metropolitan centre.
The journey to the regional hospital takes me through picturesque Australian landscapes, with winding roads passing vineyards and agricultural properties en route to my morning theatre lists. In contrast, when in the city for my work in teaching hospitals or board meetings, I navigate through bustling urban traffic.
Watch the video to see the contrast in the drive to work between the Australian regional and city landscape.
This diversity in my commute mirrors the variety in my surgical practice. The contrasting environments - from peaceful countryside to vibrant city centre - complement the broad scope of maxillofacial surgery cases we encounter across these different healthcare settings.
