Scientific exchange, connections, and engagement across generations brought the IAOMS community together at EACMFS 2026.

An international professional community takes shape through the people who contribute to it: colleagues sharing experience, surgeons exchanging perspectives, and members making time to connect.

At EACMFS 2026 in Athens, those connections were visible in lecture halls, scientific sessions, and conversations at the IAOMS stand.

The congress brought together colleagues across oral and maxillofacial surgery, offering opportunities to learn from one another and strengthen relationships. For IAOMS, it was another occasion to bring its worldwide community together and connect members with the education, people, and opportunities that support their work throughout the year.

Sharing expertise across generations

IAOMS leaders, Past Presidents, and members contributed to the scientific program through keynote lectures, masterclasses, and symposia. Their participation reflected the breadth of expertise within the association and the value of sharing that expertise across institutions and borders.

The IAOMS session, “Controversies in CMF Surgery: Masters vs NextGen,” placed exchange between generations at the center of the conversation. Alongside the separate NextGen IAOMS guest society session, it created space for established and emerging voices within the specialty.

These opportunities are an important part of an international community: bringing different experiences into the same conversation, examining approaches, and learning from colleagues at different stages of their careers. NextGen participation remains central to that exchange and to the continuing development of IAOMS.

A place to connect

At the IAOMS stand, colleagues gathered for conversations, photographs, and opportunities to learn more about the association. Members reconnected, visitors met IAOMS representatives, and discussions extended beyond the congress program to the many ways surgeons can participate in the international OMS community.

Membership, education, IAOMS Foundation programs, NextGen, and ICOMS 2027 in Berlin all formed part of that invitation to get involved.

The stand also provided a setting for members to contribute to “Yes, I am IAOMS,” the association’s member video campaign. Those voices will be featured in the upcoming membership renewal campaign, sharing personal perspectives on belonging to IAOMS and the relationships that give an international association its meaning.

Together, the photographs and conversations from Athens capture an essential part of association life: the opportunity to know the people behind the names, build relationships, and find common interests that can continue long after a meeting ends.

Connected beyond Athens

IAOMS thanks EACMFS for bringing colleagues together in Athens, and all the members, leaders, speakers, and NextGen participants who contributed to the week.

The conversations continue through IAOMS’s year-round education, scientific exchange, Foundation programs, and opportunities for involvement. They also look ahead to ICOMS 2027 in Berlin, where the international community will gather again.

Athens was one meeting point for a community that spans countries, generations, and areas of practice. The relationships strengthened there are part of the continuing work of IAOMS: connecting oral and maxillofacial surgeons worldwide and creating opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow together.
