The International Board for the Certification of Specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (IBCSOMS) has launched its first Fellows Newsletter, designed to connect and celebrate certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons worldwide.
In his opening message, IBCSOMS President Dr. Joseph Helman emphasized the organization’s mission to strengthen community and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. The newsletter also introduced new initiatives, including a podcast series that will spotlight leaders in oral and maxillofacial surgery and highlight key developments shaping the specialty.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Winter Examination Session:
Application Deadline: October 19, 2025
MCQ Exam: December 10, 2025
Oral Exam: December 11, 2025
IBCSOMS certification is a mark of distinction, reflecting advanced knowledge, technical competence, and commitment to patient care.
Spotlight on Fellows
The inaugural newsletter also profiled two outstanding Fellows:
Prof. Takahiro Kanno (Japan) – Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Shimane University, specializing in trauma, deformities, and oncology/reconstruction.
Dr. Srinivasa R. Chandra (USA) – Head and neck surgeon, educator, and current Secretary-Treasurer of IBCSOMS, with expertise spanning microvascular reconstruction, oncology, and craniofacial trauma.
